We’re incredibly excited that the redevelopment of the iconic Piraeus Tower, at the heart of Europe’s biggest passenger port in Athens, has reached completion; with an official opening ceremony, attended by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, held on Tuesday June 4, 2024.
Construction of the famous tower originally commenced in 1972, with the building frame reaching completion in 1974 but the project was never formally completed.
The building’s reimagining was initiated by Piraeus Tower S.A., a joint venture of Cante Holdings Ltd (DIMAND and EBRD) and PRODEA Investments, in July 2020, when the developer embarked on a 99-year concession of the tower from the Municipality of Piraeus.
In addition to an extensive internal reconfiguration and refurbishment, the landmark tower features a brand-new exterior façade. Rising to 88 metres, over 22 storeys, the completed ‘green’ office and commercial building is set to achieve ‘Platinum’ certification under the LEED international sustainability standard.
McBains provided lender’s technical advisory services to Alpha Bank and independent certifier services to the Municipality of Piraeus.
