Creating opportunities

We're committed to creating clear pathways into the built environment by supporting education, skills development and employment opportunities. Our activity focuses on graduate and apprentice employment, meaningful work experience, schools engagement and practical employability support, alongside opening up opportunities for MSMEs through our supply chain.

Supporting future built environment careers

We are proud to support Design…Engineer…Construct! (DEC), an award-winning programme inspiring the next generation of built environment professionals. DEC combines STEM learning with real-world architecture, engineering and construction experience, enabling students to develop digital skills, work on sustainable design challenges and gain an industry-recognised qualification.

Recently, we've partnered with Mossbourne Academy in Hackney Downs and their DEC programme: mentoring students through workshops, portfolio development, mock interviews and CPD sessions. Using live local projects, we help students apply design principles in a real-world context.

2025 impact at a glance:

  • Supported 11 students to complete their DEC Awards
  • 220 hours of industry‑focused learning
  • 33 meaningful interactions with McBains professionals
  • 8 students progressing into built environment careers or higher education

By sharing our time and expertise, we help young people build confidence, develop employability skills and see a future for themselves in the built environment, supporting a more diverse and inclusive workforce for the industry.
