A landmark PFI healthcare project designed to deliver a state-of-the-art acute general hospital.

Midland Metropolitan University Hospital is a landmark PFI healthcare project designed to deliver a state-of-the-art acute general hospital. The ‘super hospital’ includes 736 new beds and 13 cutting-edge operating theatre suites, along with an A&E department, diagnostic suites and education / research facilities.
The hospital was planned as a critical addition to the region’s healthcare infrastructure, providing high-quality medical facilities and services to the local community and wider region.
McBains was engaged at a crucial juncture in the project. Following the liquidation of the main contractor, the project faced significant uncertainty, requiring a strategic and pragmatic approach to ensure its successful completion.
By applying McBains’ expertise in cost consultancy, risk management, and procurement, together with the knowledge and experience of PFI contracts, funding structures and commercial arrangements, the Client was equipped with the information and professional insights needed to navigate a complex and challenging phase of the project.
