Hellas Smart Ticket

OASA is responsible for the operation of approximately 2,000 diesel and electric buses from 10 depots, 61 metro line stations, 35 trams and 48 tram stops (with 12 under construction) from 1 depot and 29 suburban stations.

The project’s objectives and functionality are the same as other public transport fare automatic collections systems now operating in most major cities around the world. They are to minimise OASA’s staffing, whether on buses, trams or in station ticket offices, and to maximise its income from fares. Passengers are required to upload a cash value to a personalised plastic memory card or a general (anonymous) memory plastic card or ticket from terminals accepting cash or debit or credit card transfers or to a personalised plastic credit whilst fares are deducted from the available balance on presentation of the card on entry into the transport system.
