McBains has placed an opinion article in Construction News focusing on the industry's continuing skills shortage and inviting the chancellor, in this month’s Budget, to look at reforming the incentives for taking on new apprentices.
The industry continues to suffer from a skills shortage, partly caused by the exodus of European workers after Brexit and a significant number of older workers taking early retirement after COVID. It's estimated by the Construction Industry Training Board, that over the next five years more than 40,000 people will need to join the sector every year to meet demand.
