In September 2022, The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) commissioned an independent review of the government’s approach to delivering its net zero target to better understand the impact on the UK public and economy and to ensure that the delivery of net zero is pro-business and pro-growth.
Led by former energy minister, Chris Skidmore MP, the review includes consultation with key stakeholders and a broad call for evidence; giving the general public, businesses and other organisations a chance to share their views on the whole economy transition, maximising net zero growth opportunities, the challenges to address in the review and the future of net zero.
McBains has submitted a response to the call for evidence which emphasises the importance of net zero for economic growth and urges the UK government to place net zero at the centre of policy development and government investment.

This year is a hugely significant year for McBains, as 2025 marks the major anniversary of not one, but both, of the firm’s founding companies. Quite remarkably, it's been 240 years since the establishment of Henry Cooper & Sons in 1785, whilst McBains (in its original entity) was founded an entire century ago in 1925.
