Improvement works to a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) overseen by McBains at Horniman Primary School in the London Borough of Lewisham recently reached completion.
The previous MUGA pitch at Horniman Primary School was susceptible to flooding and was often left unusable after periods of rainfall. McBains co-ordinated the excavation of the MUGA surface to expose the blocked gulleys, including removal of the concrete ring beam, before a new subbase and 40mm wet-pour surface was installed across the MUGA pitch and a 60mm surface within the playground area. New basketball hoops and removable football goals mean that the space remains multi-functional.
A bird’s eye view of the new facilities is provided by aerial photos taken with a new McBains drone, which is also being utilised by our surveying divisions for pre-acquisition surveys, schedules of conditions and general building surveys. The drone assists the team in accessing hard to reach areas; helping build up an accurate picture of a construction site.
McBains provided building surveying services to the scheme as part of our appointment to provide a surveyor-led, multi-disciplinary team to design and project manage the London Borough of Lewisham’s School Minor Works Programme (SMWP), running from 2022-2025.
