Market Square

Harlow Council

Our redevelopment scheme for Market Square will transform the area into a hospitality hotspot, with flexible spaces for street trading, pop-up stalls, art displays and events, alongside new enhanced, public realm features including an interactive water feature, useable green space, rain garden and a natural playground.

The plans to improve and modernise Market Square are part of Harlow District Council’s ambitious regeneration programme to revitalise the town and put the heart back into Harlow town centre. Other schemes include improvements to Terminus Street, Broad Walk, the new Sustainable Transport Interchange and the Arts and Cultural Quarter – all of which McBains is also directly supporting the council with a multi-disciplinary service.

Money secured from the Government’s Local Regeneration Fund will be used for the redevelopment, which has been designed to complement our designs for other new public realm schemes in the area including Eastgate, Broad Walk and the Harlow Sustainable Transport and Interchange Hub.

The scheme will introduce green and soft landscaping; a natural playground with informal play equipment, boulders and logs; a rain garden as part of the site SuDS solution to promote sustainability and site greenery; a new water feature, lawn areas for socialising; timber benches and adjacent cafe and retail overspill areas.
